The 23rd session of the Global Food Market Information Group was held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy on 15-16 June 2023. The two-day event provided an opportunity to review the current food market situation and outlook and discuss with AMIS focal points topical issues affecting markets today, including experiences and lessons learnt with domestic food price inflation; an update on the status of animal diseases around the world; and options for integrating climate risk analysis into the AMIS work programme.

The meeting also discussed new research findings and initiatives of AMIS participants and members, such as the use of remote sensing for estimating crop production in conflict areas; a quantitative analysis of the determinants of planting intentions; and the implications of agricultural price volatility for commodity-dependent developing countries. Last but not least, the meeting featured discussions on innovative and cutting-edge approaches such as joint work of AMIS Secretariat members International Grains Council (IGC) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the real-time monitoring of wheat trade flows and exploratory work of the AMIS Secretariat on how Artificial Intelligence can enhance or hinder AMIS data and analytical capabilities.
