24th session of the Global Food Market Information Group

The 24th session of the Global Food Market Information Group was held at WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 6-7 November 2023. Attended by representatives from governments, international organizations, academia and AMIS national focal points, the two-day event provided meeting participants with an opportunity to review the current food market situation and discuss topical issues affecting food markets today. Among others, the meeting featured an overview of global trends in commodities markets; an update of El Niño conditions and impacts on the agriculture sector; and an assessment of the role of agricultural export restrictions on markets.
Representatives of the People's Republic of Bangladesh participated in the meeting for the first time after the country recently joined AMIS as one of the invited non-G20 members. The Secretariat looks forward to working with Bangladesh, especially in view of the country's significant role in regional and global rice markets.
