Training of relevant staff from federal and state agencies in Nigeria on SDMX tools and practices
In collaboration with the Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), FAO organised a two-day training workshop on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX). The workshop targeted staff from federal and state public institutions, involved in the production, dissemination and use of agriculture market data.
By learning the basics of SDMX and gaining practical experience on SDMX tools, the participants had the opportunity to understand the underlying technology supporting SDMX, and grasp the relevant benefits and advantages of SDMX in day-to-day data production processes. The three training sessions, organised in Abuja, Kaduna and Nigeria aimed to enhance participants’ capacity to revise and update the protocols for data collection, dissemination and utilisation, and as well to empower them with the knowledge and skills to understand code-lists and the importance of the SDMX REST API.
A delegate from the National Statistics Institute of Rwanda (NISR) was invited to share his agency’s experience in implementing SDMX.
Among the workshop’s participants were delegates from the National Bureau of Statistics, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Famine Early Warning System Network (FESWNET) and the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services(NAERLS).
