Promoting synergies between AMIS and existing statistical projects in Nigeria

In the context of the implementation of AMIS’ Capacity Development programme in Nigeria, a three day mission was carried out in Abuja, Nigeria to foster synergies between AMIS programmes and other similar initiatives in the country.
Meetings were held with key stakeholders including staff of the relevant units of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture (NAMIS, SGR and NPFS) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). A technical meeting with the World Bank (WB) was also organized to seek synergies in the implementation of similar programmes. In addition, the AMIS Coordinator participated in the Nigeria Development Partners’ Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation Support Group.
Plans and opportunities for providing support to AMIS were discussed on the basis of the participatory assessments, which were organized earlier in the year. Discussions with FEWSNET and WFP are also on-going.
The AMIS’ support proposal is currently being finalized for immediate implementation. The proposal will also benefit from the overall assessment of agriculture statistics in Nigeria ("In-depth Country Capacity Assessment”), developed in the context of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics.
