7th session of the Global Food Market Information Group

The seventh session of the Global Food Market Information Group was held in FAO headquarters in Rome.
14 May: Delegates were updated on the progress of AMIS and the successful collaboration with GEOGLAM before splitting into breakout sessions to discuss the global outlook for each of the the AMIS commodities (wheat, maize, rice, soybeans). The Secretariat reported on progress in data submissions by countries while bilateral discussions with national focal points outlined the path for further improvements. Participants of the first cycle of the AMIS Exchange Programme provided feedback on their experiences in working with the Secretariat in Rome and invited other focal points to participate in the Programme. Finally, countries reported back on their findings from the monthly decompositon of supply and demand balances.
15 May: A new web application was introduced to estimate feed demand before delegates discussed recent policy developments with a potential impact on global markets, which will be collected in the AMIS Policy Database. Before closing the meeting, AMIS participating countries and member organizations shared new research results on AMIS-relevant topics, such as measuring volatility and assessing drivers of local food prices.
