Training Workshops on Data Documentation and Archiving Standards and Tools

01 Dec 2014 - 25 May 2015
Abuja, Kaduna and Niger States, Nigeria

Two training workshops on Data Documentation and Archiving Standards were held at federal level in Abuja, and in Kaduna and Niger States.

The objective of the workshops was to enhance capacity-building in key ministries/ agencies on data documentation and archiving standards, practices and tools for documentation and archiving. This activity built on previous work and support that was provided by the International Household Survey Network (IHSN) to Nigeria, in particular, to the National Bureau of Statistics. One of the main achievements of this work is the NADA portal, maintained by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which includes major surveys and anonymized microdata files.

Results of the training sessions include:

  1. Inventory of datasets relevant to AMIS (prices, production, etc.)
  2. Capability to add value to existing datasets by coding, categorizing and labelling some variables, and understanding of DDI metadata system.
  3. Ensuring that all the subsets of agricultural pilot census 2014 datasets (crop, livestock, poultry and fishery) are made available to be saved on the NBS NADA.
  4. Commitment in using the IHSN toolkit for documentation and archiving in the various offices.
  5. Development of a complete step-by-step users’ manual with diagrams on data documentation and archiving to support follow-up on implementation.
  6. Update of NBS NADA with newly developed survey documentation.

Future work will include the on-going survey documentation, and further dissemination through the NBS NADA portal.
