Training Workshop on Production of Market Prices of Agricultural Commodities

In the framework of an AMIS capacity building project, the FAO Representation in Nigeria is organizing a three-day training workshop on “Production of Market Prices of Agricultural Commodities in Nigeria Using Good Practices”. Uniting stakeholders from the Government, FEWSNET and others partners the workshop tries to identify appropriate institutional arrangements and technical aspects of an effective market price information system.
The main objectives of the workshop are:
- To review market pricing assessments carried out earlier in Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states;
- To enhance participant’s awareness of the significance of market price information systems;
- To review and analyze good practices of datasets and documents; and
- To establish best practices for the dissemination of demand-driven information, consistent with the needs of users of market information.
The workshop will also help in formalizing protocols, practices and standards for data production and advocate the institutionalization of a market information system in Nigeria by mainstreaming it within the national developmental agenda. In this respect, the project is providing technical assistance to strengthen the regulatory measures for the collection, dissemination and archiving of market data within the AMIS implementation framework.
