Approaches and Methodologies for Crop Monitoring and Production Forecasting

Organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, this international seminar provided a platform to exchange knowledge and lessons learned with different systems and methodologies for crop monitoring and production forecasting. The seminar is supported by the AMIS project "Strengthening Agriculture Market Information Systems in Bangladesh".
Some 80 experts participated in the event. These included technical staff from national institutions in Bangladesh as well as international experts in the field of crop monitoring and production forecasting.
The two-day seminar covered following aspects:
- A contemporary perspective on crop monitoring and forecasting – technology, methodology, institutions and challenges
- Country experiences in the use of remote sensing, GIS and agro-meteorology as well as institutional arrangements for crop monitoring
- Methodological development of production forecasting
