India
India is receiving support to improve its agricultural market information systems through the project "Strengthening Agricultural Market Information Systems globally and in selected countries using innovative methods and digital technology" funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by FAO. Implementation started at the end of 2015 after the project proposal was approved by the Indian Government.
The project focuses on:
- Identifying factors constraining the availability, reliability and timeliness of data on production, forecasts, stocks and market prices for the four AMIS crops (potato is also included in the scope of the project given its importance for the country); and identifying sustainable solutions using innovative methodologies and techniques;
- Providing relevant technical assistance and training to enhance national capacity and improve the information systems in place;
- Pilot testing innovative methodologies, ranging from data collection to data integration and dissemination.
